June One

For the first day of June, it is a little chilly! 47 degrees at 6:30 called for a long sleeved shirt and capri tights for my 5.88 mile morning run. When I got home the girls were still asleep, which allowed Zak and I to have some uninterrupted conversation before he was on his way to work.

For you runners out there, do you have a wide variety of routes you take? There are many different combinations I could take through the neighborhood streets, but I have a few routes I always stick to, depending on how far I want to go and how much time I have in the morning. I have a variety of 4, 5 and 6 mile routes, plus a 7 and an 8. The same streets and turns save me from having to enter a new route into mapmyrun to figure out my mileage and my pace when I get home.  I guess this is one of the advantages to the Garmin!

Garmin 405

I’ve got my eye on the 405. Who’s got a Garmin and which one do you have? I borrowed the 405 for a week in the fall from one of the local running stores and it was awesome. I’m in the process of “saving up”, selling used books and DVD’s on Amazon with the thought that I’m swapping out things I don’t need anymore for something new that I want. It’s much easier to justify the price that way.

After Zak was off to work I was ready to eat. This morning it was back to oatmeal and last night I decided I wanted overnight oats today.

Chocolate overnight oats. Last night I put together a half cup of oats, a heaping teaspoon of unsweetened cocoa powder, 1/4 c of plain LF yogurt and 1/2 c unsweetened chocolate almond milk. Although I was not thinking clearly because the plain yogurt and unsweetened almond milk left much to be desired in the sweetness department this morning. Bananas, granola and almond butter to the rescue, but next time I won’t forgot to use vanilla yogurt.


Off to feed the girls breakfast and shower. We’ve got some errands to run this morning and I’m glad for my power breakfast to help see me through! Working only in the yard yesterday left me with plenty of housework to get caught up on today too. Hopefully we can squeeze in some fun along the way. 😉

  1. I have a Garmin 405. I got it last June and I am in love with it! It definitely beats using mapmyrun!! I can go anywhere and run and still know how far I am going!

  2. I’ve got a 305 and I love it! I haven’t tried the 405 but it looks cool too. The 305 screen is bigger but it also shows more info on the screen so I like it. It’s also cheaper. I’d look into it if i were you!

  3. I love my 405. I had the 305 and switched the the 405 a few months ago. It is much lighter and chafes less as the 305 is bigger and moves around a lot of smaller wrists.

    I have one route for pretty much every distance up to 20. It makes it easier for when I have a run scheduled, I just go. But the Garmin is nice for keeping track of paces and pushing me harder when I lose track of my thoughts.

  4. I don’t have a Garmin so, like you, I stick to routes that I know the distances of. I’d like to switch it up more so I won’t get bored doing the same route everyday! I loved your post about catching fruit flies! I never knew!

    • Thanks girls! I’ve considered the 305, but I figure since I’m saving up and have gone this long without one, I’ll go for the big guns and do the 405. I do like that it’s smaller. There’s a new model coming out this summer too I think, but I’m sure it’s going to be more than I want to spend!
