Go Daddy Go

I had a special treat this morning; my dad joined me for my morning run! He’s off for the holiday weekend and came out our way to cruise the neighborhood streets with me first thing this morning.

My dad has been a runner for more than 30 years and has definitely played a large part in my own running journey. He runs 5 days a week, rain, snow or sun (like a mail carrier!) on his lunch hour at work. Every. Day.

Up at 5:15 and not expecting my dad until closer to 7:30, I had time for a pre-run breakfast and started my day with a bowl of fruit. From the little bit I got through with the Raw Food Detox Diet yesterday, and Skinny Bitch too, they both advocate eating only fresh fruit at breakfast and until lunch time. (Or vegetable juice too as I see on other blogs, but I haven’t actually gotten that far yet in the book.)

I have a feeling I’m going to be buying the Raw Food Detox Diet. I prefer to borrow books rather than buy them, because most of the time they just end up cluttering up my book shelves to be read again maybe once. But if it’s a book I know I’m going to want to refer to time and time again, I cough up the dough and buy it.

So I felt good this morning with a nice portion of cantaloupe and strawberries.

My dad got here a little early and made me check out this amazing choir before we left. (Don’t pass over that link, come on now. Go watch it! GO! It’s great!)

We set off on what was going to be about a 4+ mile run, but took half a dozen detours and went through neighborhoods I never run through, off the beaten path up and over a muddy trail that lead into construction of new homes, back through town and stopped to admire the plants and flowers at the local garden store, then through the apartment complex that backs up to our house and through the fence that he jimmied open through the cracks because it was latched on our side! The whole thing was hilarious and fabulous!

We did a nice 10 min/mi pace and was shocked to get home and look at my watch to discover we were gone 50 minutes. The time FLEW by. It’s amazing how quickly time goes with a running partner, I need a regular running buddy! At least I’ve got Jillian for when I’m running solo.

Back from our adventure!

Just in time for a Breakfast Cookie Sunrise.

What appeals to me about eating raw is that you make changes gradually and it doesn’t have to be ALL or NOTHING to reap some of the benefits. For right now there’s still room for oatmeal with fruit in my life.

And Keyboard Coffee too.

I’m still psyched to delve further in the world of raw foods and I can’t wait to devour this book over the holiday weekend. I think I see… I see… a juicer just up over the horizon…? Yes, yes, that’s a juicer for sure.
